On Tuesday, General Asim Munir became the new chief of army staff (COAS) during a ceremony held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
General Qamar Javed Bajwa transferred authority to General Munir, making the latter the nation’s seventeenth army head.
Gen Bajwa is scheduled to retire today (November 29) after serving as COAS for six years.
Former military chiefs, federal ministers, foreign diplomats, and others attended the occasion.
During the occasion, General Bajwa was presented with a guard of honor for the final time as chief of army staff.
Before the event, General Bajwa made his final army chief of staff trip to Yadgar-e-Shuhda. Gen. Munir joined him throughout the tour.
