Prominent Pakistani singer, Aima Baig, finds herself in a contentious situation following the launch of her new song ‘Funkari’, which she allegedly co-wrote with the late Shakeel Sohail.
Baig detailed the intricate process of creating this song, stating it took three years due to her apprehensions about releasing a solo track for the first time.
She narrated her experience, saying that the creation of the song began three years ago during Ramadan, and it was the last piece she co-wrote with Shakeel Sohail. She even described how she inhabited a character during the song’s composition.
Shiraz Uppal Accuses Baig of Misattribution
Funkari’s release saw a reaction from Singer and composer Shiraz Uppal, who accused Baig of incorrectly attributing the song’s creation. He asserted that he was the exclusive author of the song, and Baig neglected to give appropriate credit, a detail he claimed was already stated in the YouTube credits by Universal Music India.
In a social media post, Uppal admonished Baig, saying that Shakeel Sohail had passed away six months before the song’s creation. Uppal also mentioned that the last song co-written with Sohail was ‘Faraq Faraq’, and ‘Funkari’ was solely his creation which Baig took just three hours to sing.
Regardless of the controversy, Baig’s ‘Funkari’ song, which encapsulates sentiments of yearning and emptiness, gained widespread popularity upon its release, even trending on Twitter.
The vocalist expressed astonishment at the song’s overwhelming response and extended her gratitude to her fans, promising to continue creating music that resonates with their hearts.
