At Gilgit Airport, a comprehensive emergency drill occurred, commencing with a distress call to the control tower’s fire station reporting a fire on a plane stationed on the runway.
The full-scale emergency exercise involved various entities, including the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Airport Security Force (ASF), Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Red Crescent, Rescue 1122, City Fire Bridge, local police, and Key Point Police.
The drill commenced with the urgent report of a fire aboard the aircraft on the runway. CAA fire tenders and medical ambulances promptly arrived at the scene, effectively containing the fire and rescuing the injured individuals.
ASF personnel swiftly cordoned off the airside area while the police secured the perimeter outside the security fence.
In due course, Red Crescent ambulances and City Fire Services teams from outside the airport also arrived at the location.
The CAA, PIA, and Red Crescent established a public information counter inside the concourse hall. Each stakeholder performed their role in accordance with the Crisis and Emergency Response Plan.
The airport manager emphasized that these exercises were crucial in ensuring their preparedness to handle unforeseen circumstances. Upon the exercise’s conclusion, the airport manager thanked all the stakeholders and volunteers for actively participating in the drill.
