The 1-0 loss by Paris Saint-Germain against Rennes has sparked a surge of criticism in France media towards Lionel Messi.
French media argued that the club’s players, most notably Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe, were all available for this match for the defending champions, but none could score.
While L’Equipe slammed Neymar, labeling his performance as “worrying,”
RMC targeted the former Barcelona superstar and stated, “He had half a good season since he was preparing for the World Cup and training, but that is done now.”
L’Equipe reported that he was not up to the task and gave him a four out of ten match rating. But, the publication added, “We did not see the extravagant ball at his feet that we are accustomed to seeing.”
Before fainting in the second half, the Argentine attempted to contribute to his squad by retrieving balls within 30 meters.
Le Parisien was more circumspect, stating that Messi’s impact on the game was “minimal.”
