Khalid Khursheed, the former Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, has been permanently disqualified from leading the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chapter in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The disqualification process began on July 4 when the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court disqualified Khalid Khursheed Khan as the Chief Minister of GB in a case related to a fake degree.
The decision was further reinforced by GB’s Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), who issued a verdict on Thursday, confirming Khursheed’s lifetime disqualification from heading the party.
Verdict and Petition Details
A three-member bench delivered the verdict based on a petition filed by a member of the GB Assembly, Shahzad Agha, against Khalid Khursheed. The petitioner argued that Khursheed’s law degree, which he claimed to have received from London, was fake; hence, he should be disqualified under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.
Khursheed, who had been in office since December 2020 and was a close aide of PTI founder and former Prime Minister, faced challenges verifying his academic credentials, leading to his permanent disqualification from the party leadership.
