Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) leader Moonis Elahi revealed that former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa instructed them to support the PTI when the no-confidence vote was brought against former prime minister Imran Khan.
In an interview with a private television channel, Moonis stated that both the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) had made them offers, but Gen. (ret.) Bajwa urged them to support the Imran Khan-led party.
Monis further clarified that certain groups actively attacked Bajwa sahib on social media platforms without justification.
Previously, he [Bajwa] was correct, but not today. “I completely disagree with people who are currently speaking against him,” Moonis stated.
“When he gave you his full backing, he was correct,” the PML-Q leader stated, questioning if Bajwa had suddenly turned a traitor.
“I’ve asked PTI officials to join me on a TV show to establish he’s a traitor, and I’ll tell you exactly what Bajwa has done for you,” he said.
Moonis stated that there was no doubt that the former COAS supported the PTI but that when he withdrew his backing, he became a terrible person. “This is a poor example, and I disagree with them. He was never opposed to the PTI.”
“Had he [Bajwa] been against them [PTI] at that time, he would have just had to send a signal, and we would have been sitting with them [PDM],” Moonis explained.
The PML-Q leader added that his preference lay with the PTI and that he had discussed the topic with his father.
Regarding the dissolution of legislatures, Moonis stated that his party believed that the general election should be held as quickly as possible because Khan was at the height of his popularity. “This is advantageous for the PTI and its allies,” he continued.
He stated that if elections were held exclusively in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the dissolution of the assemblies, they would return with a larger majority for the following five years.
Moonis stated that the judiciary had established its neutrality, which is common knowledge. “Courts have eliminated their flaws.” He stated that they had no communication with the new organization.
When the establishment says they have nothing to do with politics, the PML-Q leader believes them because they have not affected the Punjab administration.
