A multi-story building in New Chali’s generator market area in the port city experienced a fire on Saturday, which was eventually extinguished by firefighters after hours of effort.
As per the initial reports, one person, 46-year-old Ali Asghar, lost his life in the blaze, and several others were trapped during the incident. In addition, three individuals fainted and were taken to a nearby hospital.
Firefighters rescued 43 people, including women, using 10 fire tenders, a snorkel, and a water bowser. Neighboring buildings were evacuated as a precautionary measure. The fire’s cause remains unknown, but early reports suggest a short circuit may be responsible.
Eyewitnesses reported that smoke from the burning building could be seen several kilometers away. Fire brigade officials confirmed that the cooling process was underway after controlling the fire.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the event and instructed the Karachi commissioner to improve evacuation efforts for those trapped. He emphasized the importance of extinguishing the fire and minimizing the loss of life and property. The chief minister also requested a report on the incident.
