The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) apprehended ten individuals at Karachi Airport on Saturday, alleging they intended to travel to Saudi Arabia to beg, disguised as pilgrims performing Umrah.
According to an FIA statement, the apprehended group consisted of seven women and an agent suspected of organizing the trip.
The detainees include Muhammad Nawaz, Rahmatullah, Nizamuddin, Sugra Khatoon, Hazira Khatoon, Imam Zadi, Marvi Khatoon, Mai Amiran, Zareena, and Mai Khanal. They reportedly hail from Rahim Yar Khan, Tando Allahyar, and Sukkur and plan to depart on Umrah visas.
Initial investigations suggest that Nawaz, who claimed to be a relative of the other detainees, was likely responsible for coordinating their travel and managing their documents.
The FIA noted that the detainees did not understand Umrah rituals and had made no accommodation arrangements. They also failed to provide necessary documentation or demonstrate financial preparedness for expenses.
Authorities have since transferred the suspects to the FIA’s Anti-Human Smuggling Circle in Karachi for further investigation and legal proceedings.
