This morning, the Islamabad High Court was informed that Farhad Ahmed had been held at the Dheerkot police station, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
Upon Farhad Ahmed’s wife, Urooj Zaiban’s arrival at Dheerkot police station, the police disclosed nothing. They later provided a written statement indicating that Muzaffarabad police had taken Farhad Ahmed in connection with old cases. When the spouse proceeded to the Saddar police station in Muzaffarabad, only to be told that Farhad Ahmed was not there.
Farhad Ahmed remains missing, and it is evident that the Islamabad High Court has been misled. During a press conference at the Muzaffarabad Press Club, the poet’s wife and children reported that police suggested “he might be with the SHO” but confirmed he is not in the lock-up. It appears he was never handed over to the police and remains in unlawful custody by the agencies.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani had previously taken steps to address the matter, yet there is still no trace of Farhad Ahmed, indicating that the court was misled.
Video evidence circulating on social media suggests even the officers are unsure if the case is registered at their station. It was mentioned that the SHO took Farhad Ahmed with him, but his whereabouts remain unclear.
