This event occurred just a day after the government approved the Diamer Basha power generation project, with an increased budget of over Rs1.2 trillion. This increase of Rs302 billion from the original cost is primarily due to the devaluation of the local currency.
The project’s primary goal is to generate 4,500 MW of hydropower as a component of the larger Diamer Basha Dam project, which is already in progress.
The Cabinet Committee on Energy split the project into two phases to streamline the construction process.
The first phase focuses on building the dam infrastructure, while the second phase involves the development of power generation facilities.
The explosion underscores the importance of stringent safety measures during the construction of such large-scale projects.
