The European Union (EU) has allocated €700,000 in humanitarian aid to Pakistan following widespread flooding and landslides that have resulted in significant losses of life, livelihoods, and critical infrastructure across the nation.
The funds aim to meet the immediate needs of vulnerable populations in the most affected regions, including Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh.
Taheeni Thammannagoda, who manages EU humanitarian programs in Pakistan, extended the EU’s deepest sympathies, stating, “The EU expresses heartfelt condolences to Pakistan for the lives lost due to the exceptionally heavy monsoon rains. This adversity has tested the resilience of communities throughout the nation. We have provided funding to assist our humanitarian partners in delivering vital, lifesaving aid to the families impacted.”
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) will administer the funds. Their emergency response will provide comprehensive assistance to those in need, including water and sanitation, temporary housing, and crucial relief items.
This financial support complements an additional €11 million that the EU has dedicated in 2024 for ongoing humanitarian efforts and disaster preparedness in Pakistan.
