Elon Musk is under scrutiny for his recent comments on X about the extensive abuse allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs, despite having financial and personal connections with the music mogul.
On October 1, following an announcement from lawyers about over 100 impending sexual assault lawsuits against Combs, Musk queried his followers, “How many people in music & entertainment knew about this?”
Critics quickly pointed out Musk’s links to Combs, who faces federal charges of racketeering and sex trafficking, charges he denies. Users on X highlighted Musk’s potential inside knowledge, given their connections. One user remarked, “Hmmm maybe you could have asked him when he invested in your Twitter deal.” Condé Nast’s legal affairs editor, Luke Zaleski, asked, “How many times did you meet Diddy.”
Another user noted, “there’s literally a photo of you with Ghislaine Maxwell,” emphasizing Musk’s proximity to controversial figures. A fund linked to Combs has invested in X, as disclosed during a federal court case in August.
Moreover, according to a book by New York Times reporters Kate Conger and Ryan Mac, Musk has openly described Combs as a close friend in conversations. During a meeting where a Revolt TV executive expressed concerns about rising racism on X, Musk revealed, “I don’t know if you know this, but Puff is an investor in Twitter. He’s a good friend of mine. We text a lot.”
