The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued the definitive list of constituencies for the National Assembly (NA) and Provincial Assemblies (PA). Based on data from the 7th Population and Housing Digital Census 2023, this list comes ahead of the general elections. The finalized list includes 266 NA seats and 593 PA seats across Pakistan.
The detailed allocation of NA seats is as follows:
- Punjab: 141 seats
- Sindh: 51 seats
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP): 45 seats
- Balochistan: 16 seats
- Islamabad (Federal Capital): 3 seats
For the Provincial Assemblies, the breakdown is as follows:
- Punjab Assembly: 297 General Seats
- Sindh Assembly: 130 General Seats
- KP Assembly: 115 General Seats
- Balochistan Assembly: 51 General Seats
Reserved Seats and Adjustments
Allocation of Reserved Seats
The reserved seats for women in the National Assembly total 60, distributed among the provinces as follows:
- Punjab: 32 seats
- Sindh: 14 seats
- KP: 10 seats
- Balochistan: 4 seats
Additionally, there are 10 reserved seats for minorities in the National Assembly.
Changes in Provincial Assembly Seats
The total Provincial Assembly seats (PA) amount to 749, with 593 general seats, 132 reserved for women, and 24 for minorities. The distribution among the provinces is:
- Punjab Assembly: 371 seats (297 General, 66 Women, 8 Minorities)
- Sindh Assembly: 168 seats (130 General, 29 Women, 9 Minorities)
- KP Assembly: 145 seats (115 General, 26 Women, 4 Minorities)
- Balochistan Assembly: 65 seats (51 General, 11 Women, 3 Minorities)
Recently, the ECP responded to media reports speculating a delay in the general elections scheduled for February 8, 2023. The spokesperson denied these claims, labelling the reports as baseless and misleading. The commission has approached the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) against media outlets spreading false information. It is prepared to take legal action, including seeking transcripts and recordings for legal proceedings.
