Former US President Donald Trump has openly criticized the Summer Olympics opening ceremony in Paris, labelling it a “disgrace.”
Trump’s comments came after a controversial scene that many interpreted as a parody of Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper,” which sparked significant backlash. Trump expressed his views on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle,” emphasizing his disappointment by stating, “I thought that the opening ceremony was a disgrace.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson also echoed Trump’s sentiments, condemning the ceremony’s portrayal of the iconic biblical scene.
In a statement on X, Johnson described the depiction as “shocking and insulting to Christian people around the world,” highlighting the ongoing cultural conflicts over faith and traditional values. He affirmed his belief in the resilience of truth and virtue, quoting, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
