US President-elect Donald J. Trump was named Time magazine’s Person of the Year for the second time.
Trump first received this honour in 2016 following his presidential victory, joining a select group of individuals recognized twice by Time. This group includes former two-term US presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. Franklin D. Roosevelt was the only person named ‘Person of the Year’ three times.
Trump’s interactions with Time have shown notable contrasts. After his 2016 selection, he lauded the magazine as “very important” and described the award as a “tremendous honour.” Yet, he expressed displeasure with Time’s cover headline that year, which labelled him “President of the Divided States of America,” a title reflecting the contentious and polarizing nature of his victory despite losing the popular vote.
