A severe fire broke out in the Dasu hydropower project’s warehouses and residential camps for Chinese engineers and workers in Lower Kohistan’s Barseen area early Tuesday morning.
According to initial reports, the blaze, caused by a short-circuit around 4:30 am, spread through the Chinese workers’ living quarters. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
Firefighters from Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, and Rescue 1122 fire tenders responded to emergency calls and battled the fire.
Khaliq Dad, the District Emergency Officer of Rescue 1122 in Upper Kohistan, reported that the fire took five hours to extinguish and consumed the entire camp and warehouses. Firefighters from various districts and Chinese companies risked their lives to contain the flames.
Eyewitnesses stated that the fire was under control by 9:30 am, and the Chinese engineers and workers were relocated to nearby secure locations. Dasu Dam’s General Manager, Anwarul Haq, told reporters that an investigation into the incident is underway and would be completed within three days, following standard operational procedures.
