Several schools near Shara-e-Faisal and the airport remained closed on Wednesday, even as Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi left for Tehran earlier in the day. The closures were due to ongoing road blockades.
Containers obstructed roads, preventing students from reaching nearby schools. The education department confirmed that other city schools were operational.
However, vans tasked with dropping off students could not navigate past barriers near the airport’s Stargate, forcing a return of students to their homes.
In contrast, schools near the cleared roads resumed normal activities as authorities removed the containers.
The Traffic Police Department announced the reopening of main roads around Sharea Faisal to traffic, including the PIDC intersection, MT Khan Road, and Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road.
President Raisi concluded a three-day visit from April 22 to 24, marking the first state visit to Pakistan since the February 8 general election. Sindh’s governor and chief minister oversaw his departure from Jinnah International Airport.
Extensive security measures, such as air surveillance and a temporary internet shutdown, were implemented to secure the visit, prompting local holidays in Lahore and Karachi to mitigate public inconvenience.
