Under the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab govt has refused Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to relieve Secretary C&W Sohail Ashraf and DIG Operations Lahore Ali Nasir.
DIG Operations Lahore was appointed IG Islamabad, but the Punjab government refused to relieve him, requesting the federal government to consult with the Punjab govt before transferring officers from Punjab to the federation, as appointments to important positions are involved.
Sources say that the Chairman PCB and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi desired to transfer Secretary C&W Sohail Ashraf to the Pakistan Cricket Board. Still, the Punjab government has stopped him from reporting to the PCB because important projects are underway, so the secretary cannot be immediately replaced.
Mohsin Naqvi wishes to appoint IG Punjab Usman Anwar as Secretary of Interior. Still, the attempt was blocked as Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif wanted to keep him in his current position.
Sources say a summary for Ali Nasir as IG Islamabad was later sent and approved, and a notification was issued. At the same time, Akbar Nasir left the position of IG Islamabad, but even after two weeks, Ali Nasir did not take charge. Currently, the acting charge of IG Islamabad is with DIG Operations Shehzad Bukhari.
According to sources, there is currently no agreement on the appointments of key officers between Mohsin Naqvi and the Punjab government. The Punjab government has told the Interior Minister that Mohsin Naqvi should bring officers outside the province to form his team. Mohsin Naqvi will now send three names for the position of IG Islamabad, one of whom will be appointed as IG Islamabad, and further changes in officers will be discussed after Eid.
