The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Jawad S Khawaja will retire today (Wednesday) after serving at the exalted position for a mere 23 days. His retirement is due to teh fact that he has reached the age of superannuation.
Senior most judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali will succeed the outgoing CJP Justice Khawaja and will to hold the coveted slot for 15 months till 31st December 2016.
Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali will take oath of his office on Thursday, September 10.
Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali hails from noble religious family of Hazrat Qutub Jamal-ud-Din Ahmed Hansvi, the disciple and Khalifa of Baba Farid-ud-Din Shakar Gunj.
His parents migrated in the year 1947 from Jaipur, India. Justice Jamali was born on 31st December 1951 in Hyderabad.
He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce and the Bachelor’s Degree in Law from University of Sindh in the years 1971 and 1973 respectively; enrolled at Sindh Bar Council as an Advocate of Lower Court in 1975, admitted and enrolled as an Advocate of High Court in 1977; admitted and enrolled as an Advocate of Supreme Court in 1987; practiced at Hyderabad (Sindh) mainly on civil and constitutional side.
Mr. Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali was elevated as Judge of High Court of Sindh in May, 1998.
He was among the judges who refused to take fresh oath under the Provisional Constitution Order in 2007. He was reappointed as Judge and Chief Justice High Court of Sindh on 27th August 2008 and elevated as Judge of Supreme Court in August 2009.
