Cambridge International Education (CIE) has warned about the circulation of false posts on social media platforms and WhatsApp groups, misrepresenting them as official communications.
On Saturday, through a Facebook post, CIE clarified, “Official updates and information are only communicated through our official Facebook page and official communication channels with schools, directly or through the British Council.”
The institution has urged the public to verify the authenticity of any messages received through unofficial channels.
Students have raised alarms on social media, especially within Facebook groups, regarding potential security breaches involving the AS Level Mathematics Paper. These concerns emerged shortly before the exam was scheduled for May 2, 2024. The rumours led to anxieties about the possible exam cancellation, which students feared could negatively impact their grades. Many lamented the leak as particularly disheartening given their extensive preparations.
In response to the uproar, CIE investigated the alleged leakage of the AS Level Mathematics 9709 Paper 12. “We are looking into concerns raised about a potential paper leakage on May 2, 2024. This is being investigated, and Cambridge and the British Council are in close communication,” stated CIE.
Cambridge has committed to providing updates on the matter as soon as more information is available. However, they have specified that no further information will be disclosed via Facebook comments or direct messages.
CIE and the British Council emphasized their dedication to maintaining the integrity and fairness of their examinations. They reassured me that efforts are ongoing to ensure a smooth and secure examination experience for all candidates.
While it remains unconfirmed whether the exam paper was leaked, CIE and the British Council sources remain optimistic that the investigation will conclude within a week or two.
