OpenAI has expanded access to its advanced Dall-E 3 AI model, allowing free-tier users of ChatGPT to generate up to two images daily. The AI firm announced Thursday that users can engage with image generation directly through ChatGPT or the Dall-E interface.
Since its introduction in September 2023, the Dall-E 3 model has been exclusively available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. This marks the first time OpenAI has offered its image generation capabilities to non-subscribers.
In a recent update on X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI confirmed that free users could generate two images per day without compromising the quality or complexity of the prompts.
Although the rollout is ongoing, Gadgets 360 accessed the feature at the time of writing. It may take a few days for all users to see this functionality on ChatGPT. Users can create images through both the web interface and the mobile apps on Android and iOS. Image generation is still possible even after reaching the daily usage limit for the GPT-4o AI model.
Users can use the Dall-E interface on the web interface, which requires detailed prompts, including angle, lighting, and camera specifications, or generate images directly through ChatGPT.
For those seeking a simpler process, ChatGPT can automatically refine a general prompt into a detailed one suitable for image creation. However, the image editing feature released for Plus users in April remains exclusive to them.
