CCTV footage revealing a suicide attack on Chinese engineers in KP’s Shangla district was released on Wednesday.
Shared by Twitter user Ameer Hamza, it captures the moment a bomber struck the convoy of Chinese workers en route to the Dasu dam, Pakistan’s largest hydropower project, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The site, previously targeted in a 2013 bus explosion that killed 13, including nine Chinese, underscores the area’s vulnerability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for an extensive joint probe into the attack, offering condolences and assuring swift justice for the perpetrators.
In a high-level emergency session following the attack, Sharif praised the prompt response from law enforcement and locals, which prevented further loss of life. The meeting, involving key military and governmental figures, focused on the assault’s implications for Pakistan’s energy and water security projects.
Sharif emphasized the strong Pakistan-China relationship, mourning the loss of Chinese lives, and highlighted terrorism as a significant threat, particularly to Pakistan-China relations.
The assembly committed to eradicating terrorism and stressed the importance of a regional strategy against terrorist sanctuaries abroad.
The Chief of Army Staff affirmed the military’s determination to combat terrorism, reflecting Pakistan’s long-standing efforts against such adversities.
