Back in their heyday, Vital Signs made arguably some of the best pop music ever heard in the sub continent.
Vital Signs 2 was the second album of the Pakistani band Vital Signs. Fresh from the success of their smash hit “Dil Dil Pakistan” Vital Signs went to work on their second album, with Shoaib Mansoor providing the lyrics to all but 2 songs.
Dil Dil Pakistan had unparalleled success, something which no song has ever been able to achieve in Pakistan, on its way to becoming one of the most famous songs ever written in the history of the world. As par a BBC survey in 2002 and it is widely touted as Pakistan’a unofficial national anthem.
“Sawali Saloni” was a response to scathing criticism of the song “Ho gaa naa purana kabhi goray rung kaa zamana” in which Vital Signs eulogized the ‘virtues’ of the fair skinned girl. For finding the ‘perfect’ complexion Vital Signs traveled to the Kalash villages in the mountainous northern areas.
In this song Junaid shows his appreciation of the dark skin as the sum total of all his fantasies. And in search of perfection ended up in the sands of the Thar desert.
Together these two songs show the depth and diversity of cultures and topography of Pakistan.
