A bishop was injured during a knife attack at a live church sermon in Sydney, Australia. The incident, captured in a viral video, occurred at the Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Sydney’s Wakeley area.
The footage revealed the assailant approaching the altar and repeatedly stabbing the bishop, Mar Mari Emmanuel, who was delivering the sermon. As the bishop collapsed, attendees screamed and rushed to intervene.
The attack left the bishop with facial and bodily injuries. Efforts to save him led to four other churchgoers being wounded as the attacker turned on them.
The victims, men in their 50s, 30s, 20s, and 60s, sustained injuries during this second assault.
Emergency responders and local police quickly arrived at the scene. They treated four people for lacerations, and one was transported to Liverpool Hospital in critical condition.
The suspect was apprehended by local police shortly after the assault.
New South Wales Police confirmed the arrest of the male suspect, who is assisting with police inquiries. They also noted that the injuries sustained were non-life-threatening and were being treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
This event marks the second knife attack in Australia in 48 hours, following a deadly stabbing at Westfield Bondi Junction that claimed six lives on Saturday.
