Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari delivered a pointed critique of the judges of the Pakistan Supreme Court.
In his speech during a session in the National Assembly, Bhutto Zardari drew an analogy between the judiciary and the record-breaking performance of Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem to emphasize his point about the judiciary’s overreach in areas beyond its traditional scope.
Bhutto Zardari remarked, “Our Judiciary has also broken world records like Arshad Nadeem. It is so capable, competent, and successful that it delivers justice and builds dams. They can even manage inflation and bring the prices down of everyday items like samosas and tomatoes.” His comments highlighted concerns about the judiciary’s involvement in administrative and economic matters, suggesting it was stepping beyond its traditional adjudication role into governance and economic regulation.
Bilawal Bhutto’s critique comes amid ongoing discussions about the separation of powers in Pakistan, where the judiciary has been praised and criticized for its active role in areas typically managed by the executive and legislative branches.
Bhutto Zardari’s remarks underscore a broader debate about the balance of power and the judiciary’s proper role in a democratic society.
