US President Joe Biden confirmed on Saturday that the remains of Israeli-American hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin were discovered among six bodies retrieved by Israeli forces in Gaza.
The announcement came following an operation where Israeli military personnel found the bodies in a tunnel beneath Rafah, a city in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
“Earlier today, in a tunnel under the city of Rafah, Israeli forces recovered six bodies of hostages previously held by Hamas,” Biden remarked in his statement. He further clarified, “We have now confirmed that one of the hostages was an American citizen, Hersh Goldberg-Polin.”
The incident marks a significant and sad discovery in the ongoing conflict, highlighting the tragic human cost of the hostilities in the region.
