Students of Bacha Khan University (BKUC), Charsadda, demonstrated against the university administration for allegedly imposing hefty illegal fines and sexual harassment.
Angered students seized control of the university’s central gate and yelled slogans against the vice chancellor (VC) and other administrators. As a result of the demonstration, faculty members were confined inside the university building.
The police attempted to calm down the unruly students and held negotiations, but in vain. The protesting students asked that the BKUC VC meet with them at the main entrance.
The protesting students alleged sexual harassment charges against the BKUC administration.
According to VC BKUC Bashir Ahmad, some students were fined for harassing women in the pharmacy department. He explained that he has not yet authorized the enforcement of sanctions on the aforementioned students. Ahmad stated that the department director levied the penalty on the pupils in question.
