Assistant coach Azhar Mahmood responded to questions about Pakistan’s performance in the ICC T20 World Cup by downplaying the severity of their recent losses.
Mahmood posed a rhetorical question during a press conference: “If we lose a match, should we bang our heads against the wall?”
In the wake of surprising defeats to the USA and India, Mahmood angrily addressed the media. “Does a defeat mean sitting in a room and banging our heads against a wall?
Does a player’s career end with one loss? Cricket naturally involves unpredictability; we have faced such challenges before and remain determined to persevere until the very end,” he explained.
Mahmood also touched upon the team’s low morale but stressed their potential for recovery. “Today’s match is pivotal; there is no space for overconfidence. Anyone taking an opponent lightly does not belong in the Pakistani squad.
If our top order fails to deliver, it is unrealistic to have expectations from the rest,” he stated. He further clarified that the primary responsibility for scoring runs lies with the top seven batsmen, not bowlers like Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi.
