A court in Islamabad approved Senator Azam Khan Swati’s physical detention for four days until December 3.
Senator Azam Khan Swati was arrested for his controversial tweets against high military personnel. Swati was arrested early on Sunday morning in Chak Shahzad, Islamabad. Later, he was brought before a judge who approved Swati’s two-day physical detention.
The Cybercrime Wing of the FIA had arrested Swati for using profanity towards the outgoing army chief and other top military brass.
In today’s hearing, Senior Civil Judge Muhammad Shabbir Bhatti pronounced the verdict and granted the defendant physical remand to the FIA until December 3.
Due to security concerns, Swati’s attorney, Babar Awan, requested the court not to bring Swati to court. Judge Bhatti accepted the request and exempted Swati’s appearance before the court in the future, and Swati be brought before the court via video link at the next session.
The prosecutor requested that the court record that Swati was not produced in court at his attorney’s request.
The FIA requested a six-day physical remand of the senator to conduct additional investigations into his Twitter account and mobile phone.
