Pakistani Actresses and Singer Ayesha Omar Considers Leaving Pakistan Amid Safety and Economic Concerns
Pakistani actor Ayesha Omar is contemplating leaving Pakistan, driven by the nation’s current economic situation and concerns over women’s safety.
During a podcast, Omar expressed her feelings of insecurity and the limitations she faces in her daily life. “I don’t feel safe here. I want to walk on the road, as every human needs to go out for fresh air. I want to cycle, but why can’t I do it?” she questioned. Omar highlighted that the only period when women felt free to walk outside was during the COVID-19 lockdown. She shared her stress and anxiety living in Karachi, emphasizing that many women in Pakistan share these feelings.
On her college days in Lahore, Omar recalled feeling much safer there than in Karachi. She mentioned using buses for travel in Lahore, but mugging incidents have marred her experiences in Karachi. Omar lamented Pakistan’s lack of freedom and safety, essential human needs. “You are not even safe in your home,” she added, pointing out the difference between crime in Pakistan and other countries where one can still walk freely without harassment.
Omar’s Love for Pakistan and Family’s Decision
Despite her concerns, Omar expressed her love for Pakistan, acknowledging the country’s significant role in her life. “I love the land, and if I have the choice to choose from anywhere in the world to live, I would choose Pakistan,” she affirmed. However, she also shared that her brother has moved abroad, living in Denmark, and her mother is also planning to leave Pakistan, reflecting the tough decisions faced by her family amid the current challenges.”
