Several hotels in Naran, a prime tourist location in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, were engulfed by an avalanche after two glaciers on Jheel Road collapsed.
Naran, situated in the upper Kaghan Valley, ranks as the most frequented valley in Pakistan during the summer. However, winter’s harsh cold and snow-induced road blockages typically depopulate the area.
Shabir Khan, the Director General of the Kaghan Development Authority, reported that the rupture of the Ghamla and Chapran glaciers on Jheel Road resulted in numerous hotels and homes being buried.
He noted the challenges government agencies encountered in obtaining accurate data on damages due to the avalanche and the blockage of Naran Road at several points.
Khan announced the dispatch of an emergency team to Naran to evaluate the situation and formulate recommendations. He stated that repairs on the Jheel Road would commence once access to the town was reestablished, urging the public to avoid the affected regions.
