The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for over 50 leaders of the Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), marking a critical development in the ongoing political scenario in Pakistan.
The decision came in the wake of violent clashes across Pakistan following the arrest of the former Prime Minister and PTI chief at the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
The ATC Gujranwala issued these warrants for 51 PTI leaders, including prominent figures like Murad Saeed and Hammad Azhar. These warrants are related to an alleged attack on Gujranwala Cantt on May 9, following the arrest of the former Prime Minister in the Al-Qadir Trust case.
The issuance of the non-bailable arrest warrants followed a request from the police, who informed the ATC that the accused were actively evading trial by hiding. Responding to this information, the court ordered the release of the arrest warrants and adjourned the case hearing until December 23. The decision underscores the ongoing tensions between the PTI leadership and the Pakistani judicial system.
