Asim Abbasi is set to direct an episode of the second season of the BBC series The Famous Five. Following the series’ successful debut in 2023, BBC has partnered with Moonage Pictures and renowned filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn to produce the season.
The upcoming season will consist of two 90-minute episodes that continue to bring Enid Blyton’s cherished characters to life in wartime Britain.
The initial series captured audiences, with its premiere episode marking CBBC’s highest-rated episode in 2023. As the Famous Five prepare for new adventures, viewers can anticipate more thrilling escapades with Julian, Dick, Anne, George, and their loyal dog, Timmy.
The forthcoming season will introduce “Mystery at the Prospect Hotel” and “Big Trouble on Billycock Hill,” both episodes delving into new challenges and mysteries. The first episode, directed by Abbasi, known for his work on “Cake,” “Churails,” and “Barzakh,” centres on a mystery at a historic hotel. In contrast, the second, directed by Tom Vaughn, features another countryside adventure in Britain.
Abbasi and Vaughn are also executive producers for the season, collaborating with Nicolas Winding Refn and Matthew Read.
The legacy of “The Famous Five” endures. While the series is a staple of British culture, it has garnered a growing international audience. BBC Studios will distribute the new series worldwide, excluding Spain, Portugal, and Latin America, where The Mediapro Studio holds distribution rights.
Since the 1940s, Enid Blyton’s “The Famous Five” books have been a beloved element of children’s literature. The series, spanning 21 novels, follows four children and their dog as they solve mysteries and discover secrets.
