Urging the need for revival of the reconciliation process in Afghanistan, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif said that, “peace and reconciliation are of vital importance for a larger settlement of issues in the country amid the hurdles it faces.”
Addressing participants of the Asia Security Conference in Munich on Tuesday, he said perpetual instability in Afghanistan had telling affects on the region.
The ISPR director general tweeted that the COAS highlighted the effects of the instability in Afghanistan and said the socio-economic conditions in Pakistan were being deeply affected, more so, when the country was opening up economic opportunities in the region.
He called for practical steps for managing the Pakistan-Afghan borders, especially for gainful conclusion of the operation Zarb-i-Azb.
He said that peaceful Afghanistan could open regional connectivity and share the benefits of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Pakistan would be able to address extremism once socio-economic development took roots, he said.
