Armed men looted subsidized flour stalls in Sukkur’s Military Road on Sunday.
According to the initial reports from Sukkur, unidentified armed men robbed a government-subsidized flour stall at gunpoint and fled.
The district food controller said the men robbed a flour stall on Sukkur’s Military Road. Flour is sold at arbitrary prices in several cities across Sindh.
The current flour price in Karachi is 150 to 160 per kg, Lahore 160 per kg, and Quetta 150 to 160 per kg.
According to market sources, the price per dozen eggs has increased to Rs 280, and the official price of chicken meat has increased to Rs 574.
As flour prices rose in several cities, the Sindh government-subsidized flour stalls to help the poor.
A peasant was killed in a stampede in Mirpurkhas, over at subsidized flour sales points in Badin and Shaheed Benazirabad.
The stampede started when several hundred people gathered in Mirpurkhas to buy a 10 kg-flour bag for Rs65. Harsingh alias Gulahi Bheel, 37, father of seven, including six daughters, died in the stampede.
