In a meeting held with Aptma office-bearers yesterday, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) Managing Director Arif Hameed assured All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) of maximum gas supply depending on its availability and weather conditions.

Earlier, Aptma Central Chairman S M Tanveer said the textile industry’s viability would be questioned if Punjab-based mills were deprived of gas supply in winter.

Already, he said, 35 per cent of the textile industry has been closed till date, causing a drop in exports worth $1 billion in quantity terms. The industry has apprehended to lose a total of $2.5bn exports in case the industry remains non-operational during winter, he said.
