Ali Sajjad Taj, a Pakistani-American and the current mayor pro tem of Artesia, has intended to run for California’s 67th State Assembly District in the 2026 elections.
A Democrat, Sajjad has secured endorsements from notable California politicians, including Sharon Quirk-Silva, the district’s three-term Assemblywoman. In his announcement, Sajjad expressed his appreciation for his backing and emphasized his commitment to enhancing education, public safety, affordable housing, and economic development.
His campaign is gaining traction, with support from State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Assemblywoman Blanca Pacheco, and Senators Bob Archuleta and Josh Newman. Sajjad’s prior role as President of the League of California Cities has bolstered his reputation in state politics.
Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva praised his dedication to the district and expressed confidence in his ability to fulfil his campaign promises. Sajjad’s platform, encapsulated by the slogan “One Voice, One Community, One Future,” promotes inclusivity and collective progress.
His experience includes multiple terms as Mayor of Artesia, where he tackled public safety and homelessness, preparing him for broader responsibilities in the state assembly. With the 2026 election in view, Sajjad aims to succeed Quirk-Silva and continue her legacy of service in District 67.
