Alec Baldwin broke down in tears when a judge dismissed his involuntary manslaughter charge. The defence argued that prosecutors had withheld critical evidence.
Baldwin’s legal team filed a motion to dismiss, citing that state investigators failed to disclose vital information about a man who delivered live ammunition linked to the case.
Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer halted the trial and dismissed the jurors after evaluating the defence’s claim. She dismissed the case with prejudice, explaining, “The state’s discovery violation has led to an unnecessary and irreparable delay in this jury trial. To preserve the judicial system’s integrity and ensure efficient justice administration, I am granting your motion to dismiss with prejudice.”
Upon hearing the decision, a relieved Alec Baldwin wept openly and embraced his wife, Hilaria, as the judge struck the gavel.
The involuntary manslaughter charge against Baldwin stemmed from allegations that he had fired blank rounds at crew members shortly before cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot on the set of “Rust” in 2021.
Baldwin pleaded not guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter. Despite his plea, prosecutors argued that the shooting was not an accident, citing prior incidents where Baldwin allegedly fired blanks at crew members.
