Lahore is experiencing a significant increase in conjunctivitis cases, a contagious eye infection known as “pink eye”, causing distress among the local population.
The city is grappling with the virus’s rapid spread, with hospitals seeing over five hundred patients daily. The virus, known as viral conjunctivitis, is transmitted through direct contact, air, and casual conversations, resulting in symptoms such as painful redness, swelling, and excessive tearing in the eyes.
Ophthalmologist Professor Asad Aslam urged the public to adopt preventive measures, including wearing black glasses, separating personal items, and maintaining hygiene to prevent further spread. He noted the virus can survive on surfaces for several days and highlighted the increased risk of transmission during the rainy season.
