Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Unesco’s education department have agreed to promote girls’ education under the Malala Education Fund.
This was decided in a meeting between AJK Education Secretary Abbas Khan and Unesco Country Director Vibeke Jensen.
Unesco will initially launch the programme in Neelum Valley’s Grace, Hatain Bala’s Banamula and Muzaffarabad’s Kayimanja and Saadpura union councils (UCs).

Khan said Unesco would provide stationary and lunch to primary girls students of the four UCs. Under the fund, boundary walls of vulnerable schools would also be constructed.
“The NGOs will get support to promote primary education and will be monitored by the education secretariat,” he added.
