The Universal Women Day was observed in Azad Jammu & Kashmir yesterday, with great fanfare and a renewed pledge to ensure equal rights and dignified status of women in all segments of society.
Special ceremonies, seminars and symposiums were held throughout Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The International Women’s Day is observed across the globe on March 8 since the year 1900 to highlight the importance of women and their role in society.
The day was marked with special ceremonies held under the auspices of various Women Organizations in all eight districts of AJK with the resolve to maintain the equal rights and status of women who have reached about 51 per cent of the total population of the country irrespective of any discrimination of gender.
In Mirpur, a ceremony was held at the residence of Mrs Naheed, former AJK minister for Women Development.
The ceremony followed by a grand variety program highlighting the model role of women in a healthy society. The ceremony was attended by thousands of women representing all segments of the society.
Speaking on this occasion speakers highlighted the importance of the role of women in all sections of the society.
“No healthy society could emerge without the role of the women”, they observed adding that the role of women in the progress and prosperity of any nation.
All the three radio stations of Mirpur, Muzaffarabad and Tararkheil broadcast special programmes highlighting the importance of the role and rights of women.
