Michael A Thomson, the Principal of Lahore’s Aitchison College, has stepped down due to disagreements with Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman.
In his farewell letter, Thomson cited the Governor House’s interventions as detrimental to the institution’s management. He expressed that these changes, aimed at benefiting a select few, forced his departure amidst the poor governance.
Thomson experienced considerable stress following disputes with the governor concerning waiving fines for a federal minister’s children.
In his communication with staff, he lamented the unwarranted political and nepotistic influences at the board level, criticizing the excessive meddling in the school’s operations.
Notably, Thomson had previously submitted his resignation in September 2018 but retracted it after being persuaded by then-Governor Muhammad Sarwar. His initial resignation was reportedly due to pressure from political entities regarding disciplinary measures against certain students.
