Organizers announced on Wednesday that Ai-Da, an AI-powered humanoid robot, will have its painting sold at a major auction house for the first time.
The artwork, set for auction at Sotheby’s in London next month, is a “haunting” portrait of English mathematician Alan Turing, a key figure in the development of modern computing.
The piece, titled “AI God,” measures 2.2 meters high and is expected to sell for between $130,000 and $196,000.
This online sale at Sotheby’s, featuring various digital art, aims to explore the intersection of art and technology.
Ai-Da, designed to look like a human female with a face, large eyes, and a brown wig, is among the world’s most sophisticated robots.
It operates using AI algorithms and is equipped with cameras in its eyes and bionic hands for creating art.
The robot was developed by Aidan Meller, gallery owner and founder of Ai-Da Robot studio, in collaboration with AI experts from the universities of Oxford and Birmingham.
The Sotheby’s Digital Art Sale will run from October 31 to November 7.
