After Faisal Vawda’s disqualification verdict from the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP), the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) modified its candidate affidavit.
In the new affidavit, misrepresentation in election documents will invalidate membership. In the future, Senate and assembly candidates must submit the updated affidavit. The new affidavit will be required for the candidates running for office.
In sworn statements, candidates must also disclose their foreign passports.
ECP sent a revised affidavit to all four provincial election commissioners.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan reversed Faisal Vawda’s lifetime disqualification and disqualified him until the present assembly’s term ended.
The CJP issued a four-page order. Faisal Vawda told the court he lost his dual nationality on June 25, 2018, and admitted he lied to ECP and while filing his forms.
Vawda is disqualified till the end of the present assembly’s term. However, he can run again.
The court ordered the expelled PTI leader to quit immediately.
Vawda contested his lifelong disqualification after an ECP ruling (ECP).
In his suit, the former PTI leader said the election panel was unauthorized to disqualify him permanently. He thought the IHC had dismissed his plea too quickly.
The ECP disqualified Faisal Vawda permanently for providing a fraudulent affidavit.
