Chaudhry Parvez Elahi “constitutionally” ceased to be Punjab chief minister after skipping yesterday’s vote of confidence, claimed Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah.
The security czar told the media in Lahore that Elahi cannot suggest dissolving the legislature now, calling it “illegal and unconstitutional.”
Sanaullah was referring to the PTI’s plans to dissolve KP and Punjab’s assemblies tomorrow.
“The governor’s order denotifying Elahi as the chief minister is now just a formality,” he said. “I think it will be issued today.”
The PML-N leader said an order will be executed immediately once the governor published a notification.
Sanaullah said the governor might write to the federal government if the constitutional decision is rejected. The federal government can then advise the president, and the cabinet can authorize the governor’sor’s rule.
Interior Minister: President must follow the advice of the Prime Minister.
“Parliament can pass a resolution to establish governor’s rule for two months,” he said. “After two months, another resolution can extend the governor’s rule for six months.”
