Karachi’s cinemas have been hosting film premieres with red carpets and celebrity events for over a year. Traditional single-screen cinemas like Capri and Bambino, however, usually just show films post-release.
“Dekh Magar Pyar Se,” directed by Asadul Haq, breaks this pattern with its premiere at Capri on August 15, a first in ten years. Farrukh Rauf, Capri’s director, recalls their last premiere in 2005 with Sonya Jehan’s “Taj Mahal.”
Rauf mentions past premieres at Capri, including “Salakhain” (2004) and “Ye Dil Aap Ka Hua” (2002), noting the evolution of red carpet events. Asadul Haq aims to revive the glory of classic cinemas, inspired by his childhood memories at Capri.
He believes in the potential of reviving old cinemas like Capri, recalling their past allure. Asad emphasizes reconnecting with cinema roots, recognizing Capri’s unique charm.
“Dekh Magar Pyar Se,” set in Lahore, is touted as a family entertainer reflecting the city’s culture. Saba Imtiaz, journalist and author, debuts as the film’s scriptwriter. The music is by Abbas Ali Khan.
Capri, established in 1968, has overcome challenges, including damage from protests, and resumed operations promptly.
