At least 12 people were hurt when Afghan border forces opened fire on a civilian area on the Pakistani side in Chaman.

Afghan border forces opened fire on Pakistani civilians, after which Pakistan’s security forces responded befittingly.

Local officials say that the border area is being evacuated because there have been fights, and DHQ Chaman has declared a state of emergency.

Dr. Malik Achakzai, the head of the medical facility, confirmed that at least 12 people are getting care there.

Officials from the Levies said that from the Afghan side, many artillery rounds were fired at civilians in the Boghra Road and Custom House areas. They also said the Pakistani forces had a good answer to the shelling from Afghanistan.

The deputy commissioner of Chaman said that an emergency had been declared at the hospital and that residents of Mall Road, Boghra Road bypass and Border Road had been asked to leave.

Authorities say that the fighting started because Afghan forces got in the way while the fence was being fixed in the Sheikh Lal Muhammad sector of the border.
