Authorities have implemented a three-day security plan around Adiala Jail to address a potential protest by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Sources indicate that eight new checkpoints now secure roads to the facility, supported by approximately 200 officers. SP Saddar Nabeel Khokhar leads this initiative, with police operating in three shifts and backed by a reserve force, all equipped with anti-riot gear.
The measures come as PTI gears up for anti-government protests after Eid ul Fitr. Without JUI-F’s street power, PTI struggles to unify the opposition. JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, a former ally in toppling Imran Khan, hesitates to join without clear leadership assurances from PTI, whose ex-premier remains jailed. “We need decision-making clarity,” Fazl has said, per reports.
Opposition Alliance Faces Hurdles
PTI hopes JUI-F will join the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) post-Eid, but talks stall. Limited access to Imran Khan slows progress, though insiders claim most issues are resolved—except who calls the shots. Fazl demands a PTI negotiator with full authority, which is a challenge without Khan’s direct input. Meanwhile, the government courts Fazl, leveraging past deals like the 26th Amendment.

The opposition, fresh off a multi-party conference, demands constitutional supremacy, new elections, and an end to crackdowns. Despite venue setbacks, they labelled the government illegitimate and pushed for electoral reform. With Adiala Jail now fortified, PTI’s post-Eid showdown could test its resolve and the nation’s political fault lines.
