Karachi: Most parts of the city were without electricity last night owing to an electricity breakdown. After five hours of the breakdown, electricity was restored to the affected areas. According to details, the breakdown started from 12:00 am and lasted till 05:30 am in the morning.

Among the areas most affected by the electricity breakdown were Garden, Shoe Market, Ranchor Line, Lyari, Usmanabad, Hassan Lashkari Village, Empress Market, Sultanabad, I.I.Chundrigar Road, Governor House, C.M. House and Civil Hospital’s electricity supply was also affected, among others.

Various areas of Defence, Clifton and Lyari also remained without electricity. Garden, P.E.C.H. Society, Ranchor Line and Jacob Line areas were also not supplied with electricity. The breakdown caused immense difficulties for residents who protested at the Boat Basin area.

The breakdown started at midnight when the city’s extra high-tension line tripped, which stopped the supply of electricity to areas in the Southern District. However, KE spokesperson Fakhar Ahmad spoke to Geo News and said that the breakdown was not due to the tripping of a high-tension wire. He disclosed that a grid station on Queens Road had malfunctioned, which had caused the breakdown in the affected areas.

After five hours of the breakdown, electricity had been completely restored in the affected areas.
