Earlier today, the federal Anti-Corruption Court granted former Prime Minister and PPP leader Yousaf Raza Gillani interim bail in five cases pertaining to the Trade Development Authority Of Pakistan (TDAP) scandal.

According to details, Gillani appeared before the court today morning amid cheers and slogans from PPP loyalists, who had gathered at the premises in support of the former Premier.

During the proceedings, the court remarked that indictment was ready for three cases pertaining to the TDAP scandal. In response, Gillani’s lawyer claimed that they had not been provided with the relevant papers at which the court ordered that the relevant documents be provided.

Later on, the court proceeded to grant interim bail of Yousaf Raza Gillani in five cases whereas his principal secretary Muhammad Zubair was also granted interim bail in three cases.

Yousuf Raza Gillani’s interim bail was accepted at Rs. 100,000.

Afterwards, the former Prime Minister spoke to media personnel gathered outside the court premises and stated that he respected the courts, which was why he was facing all cases against himself.

The court sent suspect Shahid Ahmad to jail on a fourteen-day remand and adjourned the hearing till June 23.

The FIA had initiated an inquiry against Abid Javed Akbar, Tariq Iqbal Puri, Javed Anwar Khan and Abdul Karim Daudpota as well as others for forming bogus companies and other corrupt practices which caused losses to the national exchequer.

Yousaf Raza Gillani has denied accusations of financial embezzlement and corrupt practices leveled against him.
